Dear Ohio Valley Voices Friends and Family,
With March come daffodils and longer days—and a renewed sense of vigor and excitement about all that lies ahead for OVV.
First and foremost, I am delighted to announce that, as of next Thursday, March 18th, the OVV staff will have received our second dose of the COVID vaccine. This wonderful milestone comes almost exactly a year to the day since OVV was first impacted by the global pandemic. In that time, our staff, supporters, and parents have made monumental sacrifices to ensure that our children have access to safe, in-person learning. Now, at last, we can breathe a little easier.
Although we will continue wearing masks and abiding by all other Ohio Department of Health guidelines, we can rest assured that our community is safer. We eagerly anticipate the day when parents can once again visit the building and play a more active role in their child’s development. We haven’t quite gotten back to “normal” yet—but I’m hopeful we will before long.
March is also Women’s History Month. For me, that means taking time to honor history’s greatest women but especially the women of OVV. We are a community filled with amazing women who wow me every single day with their passion, intelligence, and selflessness. OVV would not be the organization it is without them.
Reflecting on everything they’ve accomplished, I’m reminded of the pioneering anthropologist and feminist Margaret Mead who said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” The women of OVV are living proof of that.
Thanks to them and everyone else in the OVV family for making this spring a hopeful one!
Sincerely,
Maria
