Alumni Spotlight – Chris Murphy

Before she reached the age of one, Chris Murphy was diagnosed with profound hearing loss.

Chris is the daughter of Bob and Kathy Murphy, one of the three founding families of Ohio Valley Voices. She says, “I feel that by being in the first class we were able to set the mark for other students that came after us.”

An intelligent, hard worker, Chris has worked as a Banquet Steward at the Hyatt Hotel since 2015. One of her favorite things to do is go to the Cincinnati Reds baseball games! Passionate about sports, she is learning how to play golf and enjoys reading sports books!

After graduating from OVV in 2003, she attended the Hamilton County Hearing Impaired Unit at Williams Ave Elementary School from third through fifth grade. She then went on to Rapid Run Middle School. After graduating in 2013 from Oak Hills High School, she attended Career X at Diamond Oaks followed by a year at Xavier University in Project Search.

Looking back on her time spent at OVV, Chris enjoyed making new friends, Grandparent’s Day and the Halloween season. As a proud alumna, she is grateful for learning how to live with her hearing loss and is happy that Ohio Valley Voices continues to provide children with the tools to become successful, independent individuals with hearing loss.
